The Best Shoes For Winter

I literally went to bed in late September, woke up and what do you know, it’s already winter. It’s freezing out there, quite literally freezing and my shoes are not holding up! So what are the best shoe choices for these winter months when the rains come down and the snow also threatens to make an appearance?

Of course as with any shoe choice, you want to put comfort first. You can get good solid winter boot that are still easy to walk long distances in. Often a waterproof boot can be quite stiff, so make sure you opt for something that feels like it will soften. Stiff or hard leather boots can be supportive but a little too much so and you will end up feeling like you’re dragging lead weights around are you’ve walk for an hour or so.

Waterproof is the name of the game as winter arrives, though likelihood is you realised that in autumn. If you walk to work or like to continue to stroll even in bad weather, then you will need a waterproof boot or shoe. Hunter wellies are a great option if you walk short distances as you can usually tuck in your trousers and swap to a pair of slip ons once you get to your destination. You are absolutely guaranteed with wellies to stay dry. If you don’t want to be carrying around spare shoes and wellies aren’t a suitable option for work or play, then there are lots of waterproof shoes on the market that still look either professional or partylike! If you’re thinking strappy, then you’re out of luck and the term ‘put some clothes on woman’ comes to mind!

Remember when choosing a winter shoe to opt for something with great tread. Ice and snow can be treacherous and the best way to avoid a fall is to buy a shoe with good grip that won’t slip on ice.

Luckily, more and more shoe retailers understand that we still want to look stylish in these winter months. You can now get your hands on the best winter shoes that will still let you look fabulous!

Lady Gaga Boots & Shoes

Lady Gaga’s shoes are outrageous just like the rest of her wildly elaborate fashion wardrobe.

Occasionally, as with the Noritaka Tatehana shoes she so gracefully wore to MOMA a theme occurs and you see the musician donning the nine inch platform boots on several occasions. These particular shoes, have a hefty platform sole but no heel, and must be nightmare to walk in but Gaga pulls it off a treat.

Gaga did of course match her infamous meat dress with meat heels worn with a surprising chic to the 2010 MTV Awards and talked about for a long time after. Definitely Gaga’s most outrageous shoe choice, these might not be your everyday office fashion, but the controversial meat platform boots proved that sky high heels were here to stay for 2011. (And that with fashion anything goes – IF you’re a multi platinum musician).

Lady Gaga Bad Romance Shoes

So how much does Lady Gaga love her shoes? Well put it this way, she doesn’t just wear them on her feet.  2009 saw her donning a Vava Dudu black leather biker jacket with red patent shoes attached to the shoulders and lapels – again, kind of crazy, but we’re still hooked! Probably the most requested Gaga shoes are the Minnie Mouse-esque fairytale shoes she wore in the Bad Romance music video. Covered in beautiful gems, these summed up Gaga and her fairytale world of fashion, music and madness!

Hunter Wellies

Hunter Wellington Boots are famous for their durability and comfort and are the wellie of choice for fashionista. Each boot is made entirely by hand using skills perfected over almost 150 years and the company have ensured they stay up to date with the latest trends by introducing many styles and colours.

It’s odd to think that a boot (never mind a pair of wellies) that has been around for over 150 years is still as trendy as ever, and that the past few years has seen the Hunter appear on the fashion as well as the farming pages. Not only do they keep your feet dry on the wettest day, but they look fantastic with jeans, skirts and dresses and there really aren’t that many fashion trends that cover the generations from pensioners to supermodels.

So, whether they are the trendy must-have or the just the reliable old pair you keep in the garage, I still say there’s nothing better for splashing about in the puddles on a wet day than this wonderful wellie. They last for years and start from only £40 and we definitely consider these to be a wardrobe basic that every woman should own.

Dr Martens Boots

There are so very many shoes and boots to choose from but I need to start somewhere, so I’ll start with my favourites. Dr Martens.

What are you wearing on your feet right now? An expensive pair of trainers, or possibly a new pair of Birkenstocks? Perhaps you’re more of a ballet pump kind of individual, or prefer a kitten heel with everything. Most of the time I wear flatties, but for going out and and about, or for making a statement, you can’t beat a great of boots. Well, to be a little bit more precise, a pair of Dr Martens boots. I am totally in love with these things as they offer me all I need from a good pair of footwear and more. It all started back when I was 14 years old, out and about shopping with mum when I spotted a rack full of boots, mainly Timberlands (which I also love) but also a couple of pairs of DMs. I tried on a pair and they fit like a glove, in fact I’d never experienced such comfort before. Mum needed a little convincing but agreed after the sales guy said they lasted years and years and supported the feet better than a high heel ever got. They were purchased them immediately and so began a love affair with all things DM. That first pair lasted 4 years, and I have added to my collection by at least 1 pair of Dr Martens shoes and one pair of boots per year. I wear them with jeans, with dresses, with skirts, with shorts, at work, at home, out hiking, out dancing and when out to impress.

I am hooked on Dr. Martens for life.
